Heat cycle the motor a few times and then ride the piss out of it.

ok because the guy that built my engine said let it idle for 15 min. then ride easy (1 and 2 gear putsy) for 3 15mins cycles. but i heard that if you ride harder it seals the rings better and i just wanted to know.

If the cam was replaced during rebuild, do not let it idle.

New cams are supposed to be broken in by varying RPM.

They will wear incorrectly at breakin causing misshapin lobes.

set the idle about twice wat it is normally and let it sit at that for 15 minutes keep an eye on the temp with a hand held pyrometer if it gets hot have a garden hose handy and spray the tanks on the rad after that drop the rpm gradually till its normal then give it a couple of hard raps of the throttle. then shut it down and immediately drain the oil and change the filter put some new oil in and its ready to be pounded you do this and you wont have a problem

actually if you bought the cam used from someone else i would go ahead and break them in again because they need to wear into the shims that are on your engine

I totally agree with these guys on this. I bought a 400EX new in 02. Kept it bone stock but it was WFO from the time it come off the truck. It would run circles around my buddies 400EX that had a pro circuit slip-on and a little jetting work

it helps to seat the rings better with more compression. I ride mine hard when I rebiult it last summer and it still runs great. I guess I would do it again. steve
