If theres a quality shop near you they should be able to build two seperate boxes. One for each seat. My brother had a GMC shortbed rg. cab pickup. It had what I think were 8" woofers, one under each seat.....could've been 10" cant remember. Anyway they had major punch.....of course he was also pushing alot of power! He listens to thrash and hard metal and that thing rocked!
Like gettin hit in the chest every time the base pedal hit!

depends on your skills or your wallet..

there are low-profile sub's capable of being mounted in some pretty tight areas and then there are pre-made custom kits for cars and trucks.

keep in mind, a sub doesnt need to be pointed at you to have optimal effect.

Have you seen many people with them under the seat? I'm asking you cause I have the same gen. as you (04). I've just never seen anybody locally with subs in the same model as mine and I wanna know how hard it is and what all you gotta do.

^^Yup thats how i did it in my 150, i know it was a supercrew so it was a little different but not much, same idea. In the second pic i posted of my subs you can see the amp kinda on the other side behind the other seat. Mounting your amps there will be good you will get plenty of air around them to cool them off.

OP....you seem like you dont want to spend a tremendous amount of mone, but if you want spend some cash you can either get a mtx thunder form or a jl audio stealth form box that you can place under or behind your seat and is specially designed for your vehicle...

the problem is, everyone wants to go cheap, but sometimes, depending on your vehicle, you just have to suck it up and buy the good stuff

yes you need a good place for your sub to get cooled off...

i built a custom box to put 1 12" behind the seat of my reg cab sonoma....to make sure there was enough room in the truck to keep it comfortable adn so the sub had proper enclosed air volume, we had to make the box real long.....so imounted the amp to the face of teh encloser because it is a sturdy location...the only problem is that this spot gets reallly hot at times and the amp will go into protect if im beating on it to hard.

so basically, no matter where you put your subs.....make sure you have an ample spot to place your amp for proper cooling.

..ya but there is alot less room under or behind the seat of an extended or super crew cab f150 than an 06 silverado.....

even with the seat slid forward in the 06, there is still a ton of room for the driver

Most of it is, it was a old sony xplode box but the kids who had it before me cut it all to hell so I had to rebuild the center section... It should hit hard once I'm done with it! I'm in the process of fiberglassing the port holes now and I'm fabbin up some baffles to go down inside them. :)

how'd you choose to place your port holes?

I have a 96 ext cab silverado, i have 4 10's under the rear seat, the box is fiberglassed on the bottom to get as much air as possible and the rest of the box is wood with the subs facing up, its cost 400 bucks but it is absolutely amazing and bumps!!!!!! but i guess 1000 watts and 4 10's will do that:D Theres plenty you can do and keep your seats, you just ahve to find the right installer, dont go to best buy or something go to an actual stereo shop and theyll be able to do it.

Thanks,
Mike

Inside behind the center section so it blows out towards the slot for the ps2/amp. It'll be loud as hell lol

You think I could do what you did in my ext. cab? Rather than do the usual and go under the seats with the subs put them behind the seats and amp under the seat. Seems like the amp would have more room making it a little cooler. That is, if that's possible.

ya you may not be able to put a sub enclouser there with outhaving ot move the seat forward....that would explain all the undre seat manufactured sub boxes

correct. there is not enough room behind the rear seat of an ext. cab to put the speakers.

Sweeet. When I get another L7 im building a fiberglass box for them. Trying to learn as much as I can about fiberglassing now. Where do you buy your fiberglass supplies from?

Here is what im basing my box off of.

professional installers usually use fiberglass resin which you can buy at a variety of places like lowes and home depot....

they then paste this over materials like stretched cloth adn then allow it to harden, sand, maybe apply another layer, depending on how thick the enclouser walls are, then they paint and what not....

they build those enclosures from wire frames that have MDF gaskets on them to mount the sub woofers too

..i believe that if you go to car audio and electronics magazines website and search it...theres tons of small articles about all of the custom enclosures that they did for all of those crazy looking alpine concept cars they did for sema

ok cool thanks. I noticed today that Walmart carries some fiberglass resign and fiberglass cloth. Im wanting to sand it all down nice and paint it to match my truck. Cant wait to get started on it. Just waiting on another sub and gotta get someone to help me out on designing a port for it.

I saw that Alpine car a long time ago on the internet its crazy. Ive been trying to find the MDF sub rings for 12" L7s but im not having any luck. I cant really make them either because of lack of tools. :ermm:

Im also going to put 2 cup holders and a little slot for change or what not.

03-21-2009, 09:45 AM
There is no need to have that many L7 subs. I think it would look better in a line the angled thing looks like they screwed up. I just put my two 12" CVR in my car yesterday and my amp isnt even a 1/4 of the way up. When it is 1/4 of the way up the subs are hardly flexxing but there is so much pressure and punch its annoying. Although its a coupe so the cabin space isnt that big. I have never been in a vehicle with good quality speakers and the whole spectrum until my car. Most others either have nice cabin speakers without a sub or ****ty cabin speakers and pounding subs. I have it all and the sound is so clear and full I was just sitting in my car listening to music for probally an hour yesterday. The speakers sounded great without a sub because you didnt know what it was like with them. Now that i have them when I turn it off what sounded amazing before sounds a little flat. If you need new speakers I highly recomend Polk Audio. Ask some big time audio experts and they will tell you they are one of the best. Turned up incredibly loud there are no distortions still crystal clear.

No such thing as to many :chinese:

He angled them like that on purpose. I will have mine straight though. You get used to the bass after a while and always want more.

Im pretty good on highs. Going to work on the lows now.

For a while I was thinking running 4 CVT 10"s but I don't have enough room to make the right size ported box for them so Im going to just run 2 12" L7s in a nice ported box.

So basically this is my dilemma, too. I have a sweet sub & amp setup from my car, but I can only transfer over my amp since my sub can't fit. I think I am just going to invest in some really good door and backseat speakers with their own built in mini subs then hook them into the amp. Millionbuy.com has some good stuff for cheap...I like their Infinity setups. It should sound pretty good in a truck cab.

yes, the fiber glass resin you get at walmart will work jsut as good as what can be bought at lowes, the homo depot, or your local auto store....the thing with resin is, they use several coatings of it and make it over half and inch thick, so you have to take in to mind that when figuring in your space......also they'll lay down a layer of cloth, coat it with resin, cloth it again and then resin it...they'll do that then add resin and then pain it once its dry and has been sanded....

unless you kow the correct location to place our port to act on teh audio frequencies of the sub adn teh inclosure together, you gain no added performance by putting a port in your enclosure. when you see a port on a professional enclosure..that has been desinged to be placed in that postion etiher iwth calculations and tuning or with a design software...

finally....the mdf rings are just drawn out on sheets of mdf adn then cut...so i really dont know what to tell you there...maybe go to walmart and buya $20....that'll work just fine, and i hae used it to cut out many sub holes in enclosures.

i hope atleast nobody is using speakers sold at walmart. if you bought any equipment at walmart i recomend taking it back. it may be the same product number and look the same but if you weigh them oh man what a difference. heres what happens, walmart says build us a speaker for this price and they use lesser quality for everything for the most part to get it at that price. weigh a speaker bought at walmart and weigh the same product number speaker from a real electronics store and prepare to be shocked. how they can do that idk seems wrong to me to use the same number when its clearly not the same object. saw it in person

Ok ill get the fiberglassing stuff from Walmart. They sell fiberglass sheets and matt. What would be better to use?

Im deff going ported with this box. Sealed sucks. My last box I had sealed and switched to ported. It was done right with the help of a car audio guy I no longer can get intouch with to ask about my new box and what size port I need. My old was tuned to 33hz and was very loud. I had wiper flex from just 1 12" CVR sub. I know its not as easy as putting a hole in the box. Thats why I was saying I need help from someone to help me make a good port for it. I guess ill just get my cutout ring that came with the subs and cut out a ring out of MDF like you said. Im wanting to use T nuts for bolting the subs down too so If i ever have to pull the subs out the holes wont get stripped out.

dude...unfortunatley thats inaccurate and i would like to see where you found this information..

the stuff that you buy at walmart is not of less peformance or quality, it is either discontinued audio equipment, since you never see the same stuff at places selling the newest equipment or it is "scratch and dent"....places like crutchfield, onlinecarstereo.com and other places do the same deal....this is equipment that had either been droped or banged around by the original manufacturer or the retailer....there is a chance that something is wrong with scratch and dent equipment....but i hardly doubt that you'll experience these problems.

sure, if you want to get aweseome sound and quality...you can go out and spend oogles of cash and get the best stuff, but i can garantee that a 12 xplod from walmart will peform just as good as one baught from best buy

Walmart carries Sony subs,Pioneer,Dual,and Roadmaster.

All POS subs. They are all brand new they are just cheap subs plain as that.

Walmart just sells cheap stuff. If I was wanting a killer system I wouldnt go to walmart for anyt of it. Just like you wouldnt go to pepboys to get a 4 wheeler.

You get what you pay for. ;)
