Hey guys I recently bought a used 2002 400EX that has a pipe, uni filter, I think its jetted, and alot of little aluminum goodies. I am the president of Missouri and Kansas ATV and Dirtbike club that mostly rides trails and some track but I am not a jumper

My main hobby is riding trails and riding wheelies

would I benefit from changing my sprockets or chain to get more low end to ride trail and wheelies or is it more trouble than its worth?

if it is a good thing then what do you guys recommend?

PS I have never made it past third gear on this 400ex if that tells you what kind of riding I do lol, I owned a polaris scrambler 400 4x4 and trail rode it alot but it had a low end clutch kit when I got it so the work was already done

Try going down 1 tooth on the front sprocket and see how it feels. It will make quite a difference. If thats not enough, then you can go up a couple of teeth on the rear to lower the gearing even further.

i would find a 13 tooth front sprocket. that should get you all the bottom end power you want..if that is not enough i have a guy that machines me 12 tooth front sprockets. you can also go up in the rear but remember it takes 7 rear teeth to equal 1 front tooth

aprox 3 rear = 1 front

drop one tooth in front and you will be happy

If I go down one tooth do I need to change chains or can I keep the one I have on it

the chains and sprokets all wear together and it would b best 2 change both spokets and chain
