I have a 2005 400ex. Curtis sparks X4 pipe 38/155 jets K&N filterand rev box. I am considering removing the air box lid or installing an outerwears lid cover and removing the choke. Will I need to re jet? Right now it runs great, pulls hard and idles well. I would like a little more power but do not want to go into the engine. Is the choke removal and losing the lid worth it?

yes you will have to re-jet and is it worth it?? well idk how noticeable it will be but i would say you should do it!!

Jetting is very easy.....

I know that jetting is easy, but if the gains are not noticable...Is it worth it? Right now it runs great. I am not sure if I want to go through the experiment process of finding the correct jetting if I will not see a gain in power.
Has anyone removed an airbox lid and removed a choke after exhaust and jetting???

If I were you I would leave the choke alone, its nice for warm ups and cold weather, the jetting would be a big difference, I would start with a 155 main and go from there..

It would help if we new what jetting you are at now. You might not have to rejet if your running a little rich already.

I currently have a 38 pilot and 155 main.

i did both and def. noticed it. i would start with a 42 pilot to make it easy to start, then mess with you main cuz i didnt need to. mine has good pull all through and i love it, that choke is very restrictive. if you do the lid i would get both pre filters. the box lid is good but never will you have a problem if you get the one for the filter too. i removed and plugged off my snorkle tube too, also very restrictive. (not if you remove the lid then its just annoying and ugly)

Have you ran with the lid off already? If not I would see how it runs without rejetting. The lid is going to be the one the makes the biggest difference, not so much the choke removal.

I guess it will make more sense to do a test run without the lid. What will be the signs if I am running too lean???

May not want to hit the rev limiter, not a lot of power.... just don't rev like it should.
You will know when its right.
