Is Cometic XR400 head gasket same as Honda?

Is the Cometic head gasket that comes in the XR400/400EX top end kit the same thickness as the factory Honda XR400 gasket? Or are they different. .

yes they are the same BUT Cometic makes a thinner one .025 for more compression stocker and XR are .047

the only problem i have learned about cometic head gaskets is, a lot of people blow the head gasket under a load. the stock gasket is made a metal, and the cometic is mostly fiber. i would get the xr head gasket if u r lookin for more compression. it is slightly thinner than the ex head gasket.

does any one make a all steel headgasket for the 440 ? running the cometic now but I did not like the looks of it . would rather have all steel

cometic makes a three piece steel head gasket for our bikes

Cometic makes a trick new head gasket for the425/ 440 /89mms it has 4 peices to it it has 2 gaskets a center shim and a preload ring around the bore area to help keep from blowing out . Sort of like O ringing a block for like nitrous or nitro motors. Theyll also make you steel rubberized base gaskets for EXs and 2 strokes that will never leak . And base plate spacers for strokers and long rod kits .Special order stuff but you just have to call . Sometimes on a EX well run a small spacer plate and a Higher comp 12/1 piston and end up with around 11.5/1 and the higher cyl will retard the cam a bit so we see the type of power we want .

Hey JB400 youre right about those 400 XR gaskets but when you bore out the cylinder bigger the honda gasket overhangs into the cyl bore area. And thats not really a good thing .On Cometic big bore the hole is wider. On a stocker it works to help build comp as does a thinner base gasket . I really dont like using the cometic fibre gaskets at all as they need to be retorqued (although they dont tell you that ) after a few hours then they take a set.

Well I ordered a XR400 gasket from Honda. I just figured that since the motors were pretty much the same that the gaskets would be the same, but guess not.

Thats okay with a stock bore and probably alright on a 416 but on a 425 or 440 I like the metal big bore gaskets .
