riding quad on the road

So just purchased a 07 400ex. It is bone stock. I am getting ready to register my quad to ride on the road, but have been told that I need to change out bearings? They said that the stock ones are going to burn up because of the constant speed? Is there any truth in this? If so what bearings should I get? Any help would help me greatly!!! Thanks in advance and hopefully I posted this in the right place.

Right by louisville ky. I can ride anywhere on county roads.

ya me to, the factory honda bearings are the best you can get. unless you go 70mph all the way to cali and back a couple times. i think someone is BS'in you and they need new bearings

K thanks alot for the replys people!! I dont know a whole lot about working on quads and I am trying to keep this one running good and clean.

I would get some flat tracking tires if your on the road. Asphalt and clay eat knobbies up so fast.

I have looked into that a little. But what companys make them? I havent really looked around a whole lot. The only company so far that I saw was duro.

check out Bryson221's quad, she runs the hoosiers when she races flat track. They would probably do very well for you.

Hoosier and American Racer seem to be most popular.

also you could just get some bald throw out tires for the road. and keep your knobby set when you want to hit the dirt. im sure the atv shops will have plenty of old tires they dont want. you could get some old rims paint them black and have the tires mounted up ready to go.

i dont know about the flat track tires cause they are so soft of compound, my friend ran up and down the road with brand new tires on and wore the nipples off in like five minutes

My dealer told me this also when I was like 16 and bought a 400ex new. It is some Bull they just say that to try and keep you off the roads. It may increase wear some but come on people race quads and run them wide open for miles. Its like when say if you pee in the pool it will turn the water a color lol. I rode on back dirt roads wide open all over the country side all summer long and I changed my bearings every winter to keep them fresh and they were still good. What ruins bearings is dirty water getting to them from mud holes. Running on the road is probably better for them than riding anywhere lol.

Also I bought a dual row after i wore out my stock carrier and the bearings last 3 times as long.
