replacing rear shock

I have an old stock shock and wondering if 400ex rear shock would mount up i have an 87' with stock swing arm

it wont work. i have an 86 trx 250r, and my friend has a 400ex. my shock is blown, and my friend had his out the same day i took my shock to my suspension guy. we held them side by side. the 400ex shock is shorter. the width at the bottom where the pro-link attaches is a different width. i don't know about the top mounting hole. once i saw there were differences, i stopped comparing
