trany not right???

so i have a old yam 4 wheeler, now when you down shift it goes down to that gear but doesn't engage until you rev it, and when goin down a hill it will go when you rev it but then it releases.
whats causein this problem???

Gear dogs are engaging less than 60%.
Bent **** fork(s)

Could be either or both of these.
Excessive wear on internals being that you said it was an older model.
