These here are all from FLA

To close thinking back on it:p It wasnt the ones I was shooting that worried me, it was the ones that just appeared when you turned around that concerned me. Im not used to them so it was all new to me, but working with something like that alone and in an area where you might not see another person for days is kind of un-nerving. My wife said I should have had someone with me...I asked her why, did she want a witness if a gator got me:p

Ive offered to hand one of my cameras over to folks talking behind me that they could do what I do if they had my cameras....usually the first thing they ask is "what do I do?" I reply..."exactly";)

A toolbox doesnt make a mechanic, a stack of law books doesnt make one a lawyer, a hammer doesnt turn someone into a carpenter.....and good camera gear doesnt make one a photographer. As soon as folks realize this and study the craft, we can move forward:o Until then, I will stick with my Walmart specials;)

Haha..well if he was big into enough, I'd tell him:devil:

LOL..its no secret what I shoot, infact you usually pull the exif data from a posted image and see for yourself. I use nikon D300 bodies and lenses from 10.5 fisheye to a 300mm 2.8 and pretty much every prime lens Nikon offers. I shoot in full manual 99% of the time so as long as teh focus worked fast, I could do the same with a lessor body, infact I miss using my D200s, and sometimes I even use my sons D40:p

And the big NIKON in my avatar might lend itself to being a clue:blah:

For serious wildlife photography, a 600mm f4 with a 1.4 converter is about as good as it gets. I will have to add another Wimberley Head and another heavier tripod to my gear so I figure when all is said and done, $10k will be about right.

It will have to wait...im not a rich guy so I will have to work for it and save:p And while these may look good, its really entry level when compared to those that have been doing it for awhile. Its like anything in life...work hard, study and hopefully you reach your goals.

What is a Wimberley Head and a converter used for?

Pappy
03-17-2009, 12:25 PM
The head allows me to follow the action, say a bird in flight etc. It also allows me to handle a 25 pound lens effortlessly. Super fast to set up and almost as much freedom using it as if you were hand holding the lens.

Converters are used to add focal length. 1.4-1.7 and 2x are the most common. I use a 1.4 as it offers 1.4x times the range on my 300mm (makes it a 630mm f4 on my D300) without to much distortion or noise.

thats cool can u use the converter on all telephotolenses?

Pappy

Usually, as long as its made for your particulair lens. Some just dont like them (the lens) and they wont work well. It slows down your autofocus just a tad and on some models it wont work at all.
