I want to start racing my 400ex...What would I need to do this? I already have someone willing to sponsor me but they dont sell atv parts or make atvs...Would that be an allowable sponsor?

your for sure gonna need a tether, nerfbars, boots, and maybe a chest protector.

what kind of racing do you plan on doing?

I have all of that besides tether. I just want to race, around a track nothing like flat track or stuff like that...Nothing to serious either. Im going to be a first timer racing.

unless you have plenty of money i suggest you turn around now. Dont take this wrong. there is a lot and i mean a lot, of money in racing.

You can just go to a track when they have practice days, then you just can ride around for fun, you still need a tether though i believe. gcart is right it gets expensive quick, i went out for my first ride on a mx track, wrecked and had to get a new steering stem and bars. It was an expensive first day out, new roll stem and tag t2s.

if its not about the money and you just want to race...do yourself a favor....sell the ex and get a 450...if money isnt important get a newer already "race ready" quad before you start dumping money into the ex pit.....you'll never come out on top if you get into it serious and if you dont....atleast you'll have one badass track quad to play on!

Find a local series, get the requirements and race. Fee's shouldnt be too much like mentioned the expensive part is usually parts. Getting from one track to another is also very costly. gcart2 has probally seen this, at Dade City even the smaller ATV and young classes have huge rigs and so many spare parts sometimes quads its crazy. And the serious competitors its mind blowing how much is spent for just local level racing. Money makes a winner in a lot of things just because they can afford to rebuild the motor and have spares if they break something 1 race to be out there for the next.

it doesnt matter how much money you have. if you have a quad that runs you are able to use it. some people have fully raced out quads and im keeping up or mabe faster than them with my almost stock kfx450. but i would consider you to get a 450 if you have the money. i love my kfx

i am running 1 race this year at Unadilla and i already have poured 2000 into my 08 to be competitive and legal. I plan on having at least enough money in parts to get me through the day which is looking at around another 2000 and that is not including travel costs ( Rv,Fuel, food etc). So if you have a bottomless wallet ( or your sponsor does ) start with what everyone else said...by a 450 and go from there...Am i running a 450? No...but i have an old fart class that i can beat the guys running in....

If I get a 450, Im getting a suzuki. I will find out some more info about what the people are willing to do who said they would sponsor me. I do not have a bottomless wallet. I would sell my 400ex and buy a suzuki, but at the same time if im not racing i will be in the trails...i herd 450's are bad in trails

it wont ever be as good as the ex but you can gear it down and that will help some.

there not BAD in trails...yes u do have to keep them revved and wont have reverse on some...but if they where bad on trails why would the gncc and other xc and hare scrambles races have the majority of riders on 450s.....trust me i regret buying the 400 not that i dont like it...its just so expensive to be competitive at any kind of serious level...at the time it was the right choice but where am at now..its turning into a money pit...yea the new ltr's are sick

my thoughts exactly. i couldve bought a yfz450r if i waited and not bought my 400 and all the mods i have on it.
it gets expensive on these things and they are becoming obsolete fast with all these showroom race ready 450s.
but once they are modded they are great! but still not a 450.

The new yfz450r is pretty sick too, that or the suzuki.

I got my 400 for money reasons but if i had cash and was buying a new quad it would be one of the wide (KTM,YFZ450R,LTR,DS) 450s.

I'd love to have a nice 450 and my 400... I just love the feeling of it. Later on I might just make it a hybrid. I hear too many things going wrong with most 450s.

hey man, go up to walden mx a few times for practice and see how YOU hold your own against some of the other riders there.

then sign up to d34 or neatv-mx. enter a few races, probly 4 stroke c. and if your good at riding youll be able to beat some of the goons that ride in that class.

yeah there open like every day of the week, just check for the OP times and go

usually alot of quad riders go on a certain day so ask around and find a day where most quad guys go
