I was out riding today and noticed the valves slightly tapping at lower rpms, then after about an hour, I had a real loss of power. Well then my chain jumped off and hit the stator cover(no big deal $40 on ebay) Now it wont start. Where should I start? I was thinking of just replacing the timing chain ,adjusting the valves, new oil filter, new piston and rings. What all goes bad on these motors? I know these are great quads, which is why I purchased mine. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

first check your valve clearances. go from there

what should they be at, I didnt get a manual when i boought it. Valve adjustment being off can cause that much of a power loss?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I got it done right, the exhaust valves took almost 1/2 turn to get the right clearance, the intake was about 1/4 turn of adjustment, hopefully this fixes it.
