Nope!

'86 didn't have a KEY switch but the componenets - coil, CDI & stator will plug into the '86 to '88 harness.

They changed the stator plug in '89 to a single plug for the two wires that had bullet connectors.

So you have to have the '89 stator for the '89 Harness.

'86 to '88 you can mix & match.

the 86 and 87 are the same but the 88 has the white and black wires in the plug oppisite they will work you just need to swap the pins in the plug.
also the 86 ATC harness will work but the mounting points are difrent for the components (so you need to get a little coustom)
I have a 86 atc harness I toted around as a spare if you need to buy one let me know.

i want to set up my wiring so that i do not need a switch on the handlebar. i have an 86 motor and want to just kick it to start it and not worry about that stupid switch.

Just unplug the switch......

But how are you going to turn off the engine ?

Do you have a tether switch in the system ?

never thought about turning it off.lol a teather would be a good way to do it.

A little snip here and connector there, any year wiring can be made to work.
