going from 3rd or 4th gear to neutral

mt buddy just got a 03 and you can tell it has been beat on. he says every once in a while when he is in a higher gear it will just automatically go into neutral. i dont think it sounds to good. any suggestions on what the problem it?

The gears are worn out. The transmission needs to be rebuilt. The dogs on the side of the gears have an angle cut to them to keep them engaged, once the corners get worn enough they wont stay engaged.
