on FMFs website, they have a AOF (adjust on the fly). Cdi kit that is 2 way adjustable for torque or boost. they claim it adds power, acceleration and more peak rpms....anyone have one of these or know anything about them? later

there was a pro rider -Damien Plotz- (sory if i spelled that wrong) that came into my local practice track on his huskavara ( spelling agin :( ) bike with one i think it was factory but he said it was hard to get used to but once you do it is awsome... he was very happy... hope this helps

I could be wrong on this, but I thought the adjustable ignition module was a banshee only mod? Just wonderin, like I said I am probably way off. I haven't seen one in real life, in fact the only time i've seen anything on it other than fmf's website or ads was in the last issue of atv sport magazine. They did a test on the 400cc powervalve fmf banshee, which had the ignition curve module of course. The article said that they didn't notice a big difference witht he module's 2 modes, its a lot of money for a module! lol. Y'all take care.

I am pretty sure this a two-stroke only mod, am I right? I have seen it for Cr250s and such, never for an Ex.

Sounds like a gimmick to me...

On a 4 stroke engine, there is no such thing as a timing curve for torque or a timing curve for RPM.

Properly tuned ignition timing curve works well in all conditions. Kinda like a properly tuned carburetor does - you don't have carb settings for torque and settings for RPM - if you get it right, it works well everywhere....

However, if someone were to come out with a programmable ignition controller with 3D timing maps, that would be the ticket. It would take quite a while and lots of testing to tune though - definitely not for the faint of heart....

Gabe, couldn't you just hook up a vacuum line to the vacuum advance on the distributor?:D

i got the msd ignition and a billet distributer with mechanical advance.

Me too and I'm running the silver springs for upper RPM power.

I was thinking more along the lines of a flash programmable controller with a MAP sensor tapped into the intake manifold with a 16x16 user definable table with RPM vs MAP and separate mappings for cold start, heavy acceleration and light cruise....

A laptop interface with data logging and knock sensor feedback would be on the list too.....

Im running the Gold Powerbands in my R, what about you Gabe? Which do you think run best. Ive tried red too, but i like the gold a bit better. :D

Gabe, what you are talking about is the like the service port in the new cars right? The ones where u jsut plug in a laptop and u can pull up all the info like mis fires, rpm, avg rpm, all that. My friend has a computer in his car that is hooked up to his service port (he has a 98 mustang GT) with a flat panel 15" coming out of the dash.

Anyways, multi funtion service ports will soon be a part of Quads... I'm guessing withing the next 15 years.

actually..theres a company the make programable ignitions for 4 stroke dirtbike...there called vortex ignitions and i've heard nothing but good stuff about them..they come with 2 modes whick you can chose..theres like a torque, supercross, traction, rev, and a bunch of settings you can choose...go to thumpertalk.com and alot of yz250f riders use them...i'm hoping they start to make them for 400exs or xr400's

Group......Check out 400ex.com........It is Aaron Wolf's homepage. He races a 400ex and I think he has this as a mod. He has a picture of it installed on his ex and he should have some results posted on it soon.
