So when i got this 250r everything was fine. Went to honda and got a new spark plug and the spark plug cap wont go over the new plug......the other plug was threaded on top and had the fat part on top of this plug removed and the cap fit loosely on it which is why i got a new plug.....what do i need to do? will Honda have a different spark plug cap? i don't know if this one is original or not....is a super coil from janssen racing worth the money?(95$) j/w ya'lls opinions..... because she wont run right ....

some spark plug caps are skinny and you have to unscrew the fat end, others need the fat end. The stock end needs the fat end. Yes, you can run the vin to see what year it is, there also should be a sticker on the frame(if not painted/stripped/pc'ed already). You can also take a picture of the footpeg area, and alittle to the right of the footpegs on the left side, that can tell if it a 88 or 89. A picture of the front motor mounts will tell if its a 86 or 87. 85-88 used one stator and 89 used a different stator. The only difference is the stator ends, find the stator ends and post a picture of that, that will tell us what year wiring you have. I know it doesn't tell us that much anymore, but what color is the engine cases? 85's were black, 86/87 gun metal grey and 88/89 black. What makes 85 and 88/89 cases different is if you look at the front motor mount, there will be a slot where the bolt goes through. If it a wide slot, its a original 88/89 case, narrow slot will be a original 85 case. If you have a gun metal grey case 86/87 original will have a narrow slot, ALL replacement cases have a wide slot, even replacement 86/87 cases. I have 2 sets of them, grey, wide slot front motor mount.

whats different about where the frame connects around the footpeg? ill try and get pix.......back to the spark plug....that was the problem, when i uncrewed the fat end off, the cap didnt fit well, it was really loose feeling and not secure and making good contact.....

what I'm really looking at is the footpeg mounts and looking if it has a screw hole in the diagonal rail of the sub-frame. 88/89 frames had a boss that the footpeg slides over and a bolt goes through it. 86/87 had a peg plate that screwed on with 2 10mm bolts. Now this is where the picture for the subframe rail is wanted, 89 had heal guards stock and it had a bolt hole ~1/4 the way up the diagonal frame rail. There is a bolt hole ~1/2 way up that isn't directly on the frame rails, it has a alittle triangle on it, that is for the chain roller. On a 89 frame there is 2 bolt holes, one is at the end of the chain roller triangle and another is directly on the square frame rail.

As for the spark plug, you probably just need a new cap, they do wear over time and become loose to where they don't make a good connection.

Right here is a picture of a 89 frame, you see the bolt hole on the frame rail and the footpeg mounts? You also can see the rear motor mount on the frame also.

heres a picture of a 89 frame

http://i29.tinypic.com/2qkqnu1.jpg

this is a 88 frame with pro-peg mounts, if it was a 89 frame there would be a bolt hole in rail right near the 2 holes for the master cylinder.

this is my 88 frame, notice no bolt hole for the heal guards to mount to near the master cylinder mounts

this is a 86 frame, 87's are nearly the same, expect the front motor mounts are just like the 88/89.
