I was going to buy the Elka E36 front shocks. (This is the link for them) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Elka-Front-Shocks-Honda-400EX-TRX400EX-E36_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2 Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3 a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem 380065488085QQitemZ380065488085QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5 fPartsQ5fAccessories
But I was wondering if 450r fronts, rebuilt by GT thunder will be better. The Elka's are triple rates and will be cheaper, and the 450r shocks rebuilt will be a dual rate setup and about $200 more. From your experience what do you guys think will be better?

i say fork over the extra 200 bills for GTT rebuilds. but if your on a budget the elkas without the rezzies will get the job done great.

Just wait another week or so my friend. There was a set of Elka triple rate w/ compression and rebound adjusters, w/ rezzies on Ebay for $400 last week. Those are specifically designed for your 400 versus modifying something else to fit. Stay patient, and you'll find some awesome shocks. I got my Elite Series quad rates with remotes for $500 on ebay. Deals come all the time on there.

The thing I hate about my rec series elkas is that there is no compression adjustment (where on 450rs you would have that). If I had to do it again I woulda saved for something nicer. Other than that they are great though.

i wouldn't get aftermarket shocks that doesnt have compression or rebound adjustment, i'd spend the money on getting 450r fronts and have them built. Eventually that's what i'm doing to my 450 fronts.

just save and you'll find a deal on ebay.

Thanks for the input guys. also which would have a better feel to them? I understand the 450r shocks would be more adjustable, and probably better for racing but that isn't really important to me. Which would be better for high speed trail riding and would absorb freestyle jumps better?

Unless your gonna rebuild your 450's right away, they're gonna be real stiff. From what I've read.

if you get 04 or 05 fronts, they're not stiff at all, i have my preload set two turns from the top and my compression and rebound set at 2 1/2 turns and it soaks up little bumps and i can hit decent sized jumps and not come close to bottoming out.

If I go with the 450r fronts, they would be rebuilt by GT thunder before I even put them on.

you can do wonders just buying the correct springs...

checkout Race Tech (http://www.racetech.com/SubMenu.asp?cMenu=24&c=Yes&showPage=quad)

Pretty sure Race Teck bought out the company TCS that did all the shock conversions.
