i was wondering if add a pipe to my ds 450 what kind would you put on to add power and do i have to get it reprogramed for that pipe or can i just put it on or how does that work sorry i new to this. or should i just take the baffle out and cut the pink wire and take the air box lid off thanks

if you cut the pink wire, take the baffle out, and take the lid off i think you pick up around 1 to 1.5 hp. you can notice a difference, but i think it mainly improves the throttle respones. i have a rossier pipe & intake on mine w/ just the pink wire cut and it runs fine. i will eventually buy a pc5 and get a tune just to be on the safe said though.

Dray,

Cut your pink wire, pull the baffle out, take the lid off.....you may run lean at that point since the stock pipe is restrictive and won't allow air flow. Watch your fan intervals, if it comes on often you can go to the dealer and they can add a little more fuel.

You'll get alot of opinions on pipes, they are all good guesses, once you modify your stock quad your guess is as good as any. Best solution would be a custom pipe based on the exact air pressure and velocity at the exhaust manifold, but manufactures can't cover all the different flow rates, they design and dyno test to stock quads.

After carefull review of the options we have decided to go with Rossier. We've seen some dyno results and think it will handle our specific mods the best.

Once you add the pipe you may not run lean, that is the intent of the race map the factory put in and pink wire cut, so you can add a pipe in most situations and not have to buy a fuel controller. That will depend on what elevation, air density and temp you ride in often. Still watch your fan and go to the dealer if necessary, you want your fuel air ratio right or close to what the system can compensate for to maintain engine life and not over heat or go into the temperature limp home rev limit modes. Also get the temperature updated at your dealer to the higher level if you have not done so, they do that for free or should.

If you add more mods you will add a fuel controller, there are different ones out there but there main function is to provide an interface to the ECM(main computer) for MAPs and tuning on a dyno....Some have better tuning capabilities than others. The PC5(Power Comander is the company do a goggle search) is state of the art technology and advanced tuning increments(throttle positions), for about $320. Later you can add a oxygen sensor to it for optimized performance and auto tuning, no matter what elevation your at. There are others like Motoworks I beleive you leave on your quad and you can select different maps, but not as effective as PC5, FMF, and some other pipe companies make them too.

Got any questions just ask!
