Blew 3rd gear

been working on my sons ex/yz426 hybrid all week getting it ready for our first series race on the 29th. the clutch was slipping pretty bad so i put a clutch kit in it. pulled it out of the shop today to test the new clutch. i live in a residential neighborhood so i usually dont get out of 1st and second in the yard and street in front of the house, oh yea i got 2 cops that live across the street from me too. well anyway rode it around and done a few first gear launches shifting to second before i got to the street, done a second gear launch and shifter to third. quad shuddered and kept popping in and out of third. decided to ride down the street taking it easy in third. same thing kept popping in and out of third. pulled it into my shop. clear a place on one of my work benches, ordered a full gasket set tonight. gonna pull it out of the frame tomorrow and start tearing it apart. luckily i have a spare motor in parts. it was the first motor we had in the quad when we built it. my son wasted the cylinder, piston and crank so i just bought the motor that is in it now. the spare motor has all new gears in it from when we put it together. when we bought the bike the motor was in we got the whole bike for $300 because the tranny was trashed so we replaced all the gears. give me a chance to clean everything up real good and make a few welds where the bottom motor mount has cracked. cant complain since i built this motor myself a while back and put a new crank in it it has been bullet proof. anyway the fun starts tomorrow.
