When I back my bike up I can hear a popping sound. Any ideas?

I have had the rear end apart and I didn't notice anything wrong (although I was in there to replace a bearing so I didn't pay too much attention to the cv joint. Also, if there was a problem with the cv joint wouldn't in make a popping sound when the bike is going forward instead of just in reverse?

my quad made a funny noise once in the back end while i was backing up. i found out it was the chain. try to lube and adjust it. my .02

Chain? huh. Can't say I would have thought it was the chain. I do keep it well lubricated but if this would be my problem is my chain too tight or too loose?

Mine was too loose. With the IRS you don't need as much play as a straight axle so you can tighten it up to about an inch of play. It solved my wierd noise. I just hope your popping and my wierd noise is the same. It would be nice to have an easy fix like that.
