Do 04's Suck ???????

I just sold my Raptor 660 and am hunting for a YFZ. It seems the 04's are much less expensive. Obviously I realize the price is expediential to the year. But the deals I'm finding on the 04's just seem a bit out of balance to me.

The year has nothing to do with whether the bike sucks or not. You can buy an 07 that's beat up or ragged on and that would make the bike suck. The 04 and 05 YFZ's are only 439cc's so that plays a role in it as well. Most of us with 04's and 05's have upgraded our motors to where they basically are 06 or better(True 450cc's).

04's are pretty good, all my buddys got 04 3 mill stroker yfz's and they eat up the new yfz-r's with big 3 mods for lunch

if you upgrade them and make sure you do all the mods like the oil mod, decompression plug, resistor kit, and so on they should be fine.

my buddys are runnin wr cranks and yz450f pistons very nice setup in there 04's, Im not sure if thats what makes them a true 450 but they are tellin me that theres are true 450's now

on the 04/05 yfz's if you upgrade to the 06 crank it puts it to a true 450cc and also upgrade to an 07 oil pump and have the oil mod dont on the case

-oil mod depends on who you want to do it you can do it yourself for about $15 (theirs a good write up on it at yfzcentral) or sparks racing can do it for about $250 i think, you don't have to do the mod but the mod aids in lubrication to the wrist pin and the skirts of the piston, prolonging the life you for engine.

-the decompression plug was a problem with some 04-05 models because the plug would pop out and you'd loose oil. the 06 up were welded into place preventing the problem

-the resistor kits in the 04-05's isnt needed if you keep the headlights and keep the lights on all the time, however the resistor kit is a must if you plan on taking the lights off as the charging system dosnt charge the battery properly and the battery ends up discharging itself dead.

I'm not a psychic and can't read into your answer and see that you were joking. And what I posted was merely a fact that the 04 TRX motors were underpowered stock for stock compared to the YFZ's. In 06 Honda made a powerplant on the TRX's that was awesome and gave the YFZ's a run for the money. I also have a friend with an 04 TRX and we have the exact same mods, same person ported the heads, and his bike pulls nothing like mine and he says that to me on occasion.

All I did what state that the 04 TRX was underpowered compared to the 04 YFZ. How's that being a smartass or taking it too seriously? Well, I guess if that's something you as a Honda owner don't want to hear you consider it that way. I'm not bashing what you have. They're all good bikes in my opinion. But there are those that perform alil better in certain areas than the others and they all have pros and cons to them.

It's all good man! It all depends on rider most of the time anyway. They all make some very nice quads. I think it's a good thing that we can go back and forth about who has a better bike. Back before 04 everyone was riding Banshee's because they didn't have much else to choose from.

I think you all need to go buy the KTM. Then you could talk ****. Just messin guys. I have an 05 yfz and an 08 ktm. I like them both. But the ktm is a hot rod cadillac. Yfz runs pretty good too.
