My factory thumb throttle is worn out and has a lot of play in it so I am looking to replace it. I don't want to spend $100 plus for an aftermarket thumb throttle. What is the best factory thumb throttle out there? I don't care if it's Yamaha Kawasaki or whatever. I've heard that a different thumb throttle can make the throttle easier to push in. I guess some have more leverage inside. I'm getting a little older and I would love to make things easier on my thumb.

OEM 250R with the TRX90 lever is like butter.

Thanks for the info knobbyboy. I would've never expected that a thumb throttle off of a smaller quad would work better. What years will work and are there any mods you have to do to make it work.

I believe you can probably rebuild your stock thumb throttle for around 50 or 60, but im not sure, I bought a 400ex one thinking it was the same, but i was wrong, don't know if it will work or not never tried

the 400ex thumb throttle will work fine. I used one on my old 86 250r. The question is will the trx90 lever work on the 400ex thumb throttle and is it just as good of a result?

yes you can rebuild it, trot yamaha oem parts finder, item number 7 throttle link. when this gets sloppy the carb slide will not open all the way which caus a major decline performance ith shipping and all will cost 32.oo.

the 400ex throttle will work but when used on the larger carbs you'll need to remove a bit of material from inside to allow the lever to open the slide to WOT.

I think the stock 250R throttle assy is the best thing going. It has a leverage reduction system built in. The 400EX throttle is just a plain jane deal. And YES its item 13, the actually thumb lever and its bolts up with no mods. You'll have to move the throttle down the handle bar a bit to get the right position again but it works great.

I sold a good OEM 250R throttle assy on ebay a while back for about $7- LOL, too low I guess. I got another one in storage but I'm keeping it for the day i put it on some other quad.

... 90 lever also fits the 400ex throttle but still, as said already, the 250R throttle is a better unit. That was a part that Honda made cheaper, not better.

thanks for all the great info guys. I've decided to just rebuild my existing thumb throttle and replace the lever with a trx90 lever.

Heres a good link for part numbers, pretty simple to use.
