Hey guys, I rode a KFX450R and it was a bit leggy taking off and scooting around in 1st gear.

I saw it had a 14t on the front. So what about dropping to a 13t to get a little more grunt and a little less speed?

I'm not sure about it because you guys say it's geared too low?... And to "me" the transmission is VERY close ratio which makes me worry a fellow might shift himself to death with a 13t.

I'm making a purchase tomorrow, so any input would be great so I can make a solid decision on what to get.

the kawi likes to have the clutch slipped when just puttin around, really likes to be in the power band.

Yeah... it's good... better than the other 450's besides the KTM 450 engine.

It's just a little leggy down low is all. It doesn't have quite the off-idle torque/grunt and wants to roll a little fast at minimum speed.

yeah i agree, but once you get used to it you really dont notice it. i noticed that you posted about a rekluse clutch, that might help you keep it from stalling whe in low speed tight sections.

I finally found that online calculator.

Best I can tell, the move down would subtract about 4 mph off top speed.

For my riding I could live with that if the stock top speed is not painfully slow already.

I generally don't do much rev limiter hitting speed. Don't ride those kinds of areas.

well all i can say is to each his own. if that would make you more comfortable on it in tight woods and slow trails then i would say go for it. i think i would do that befor i spent like 4 bills on a rekluse clutch

did you try this? I was thinking about doing the same thing for trails.
