I need some ideas on how to get a truck back to my house when I have no license since I am only 16. I don't want to register or insure it just yet so are there any ways of getting it home through my parents insurance company just for the day? I thought of renting a tow behind trailer from u-haul but i'm trying to find a way that doesn't cost money since I'm already dishing it all out on this truck.

I dont know....Have someone with a lcense drive it home. Put some tags from a different car on it and then have another car behind it to act as a cop blocker.

when i bought my truck it was a good 45min drive from my house.

took the plates off my moms car, went with my dad, he drove it back and i drove his truck back right behind him. drove specially careful to avoid being pulled over

I know I probably wouldn't get caught but I just don't want to even risk it.

Good idea its incredibly illegal,

Your just gonna have to pay up and get a u-haul tow behind. There not that pricey

Call a wrecker service to get it towed. Probably less than $100. Ive driven my rhino on the main road farther than you would be driving this thing home.

Well, I bought a car when I was 16. I didn't have license and registration on it. I contacted the police station and they gave me clearance to drive it about 10 miles from point a to point b. As long as I had someone in front of and behind me driving vehicles as well.

I take that back. I was 15 and my parents drove it home.

Most states give you a 24hr period to get a vehicle home with no plates/reg after purchasing it. Most insurance companies will do the same also. Just have your bill of sale and title with you. I'd check with YOUR state though just to be safe.

Yes this is what I did when I bought both my trucks. 1st truck was only a 30 mile drive but 2nd was 170 miles and I had no problems with cops both times.

NJ is not a friendly state as far as bending the rules go, we shouldn't give this young man advice that is going to get him in any trouble!!!!!!!!!!! What if a drunk driver hits him and the drunk dies, guess who will be in trouble.....not the drunk guy....save a hundred and get it on a flatbed, will be money well spent!!

Im not sure how the memberships work in the States. CAA up here (which is the same as AAA for you guys) will tow it. Just park it on the street, say it broke down. But make sure you put plates on it that are legit. When you call, theyll ask for the plate number and just say you dont know it and your not currently at the vehicle. Without plates i think they either charge $40 or wont tow it at all. It has to have insurance. So just use legit plates and tell them the truck is broken down. Give them a good excuse as to why it wont run because some of the tow truck drivers think they are mechanics and will attempt to start it or some thing. A CAA Plus membership here (tows up to 250kms) is about 100$ and i think $65 for another family member to be added. Its cheaper than towing it without a membership, or risking driving it.

Is the truck on the road now? If so, tell the previous owner to leave the insurance on it so you can get it home, or even just have him deliever it?

FYI-
using a plate from a different vehicle is actually a felony.
don't ask how I know this.

go with the AAA towing, but remember that the AAA Member listed on the card you will be using, MUST be present.

in other words, if it's your Mom's card, She will need to be there.
or if it's "Joe's" card, then "Joe" will have to be there.

or go to the DMV and get a Temporary Move Permit, for one day, and have a licensed driver bring it home for you.
