bar clamps ... need help

need help on my 400ex. i ordered some pro taper se bars, didnt order bar mounts, aparently i needed to cause these bars dont fit on the stock bar mounts. who makes good quality bar mounts for the pro taper se bars w/ a stock stem? and where can i order some? thanks in advance.

i dont like to purchase off ebay. also those clamps are for 1 1/8 bars. the pro tapers bars are 7/8 at the clamp area. that is the problem i am having, the stock clamps on the 400ex bars are 1 1/8.

Ok. I didn't look up the bars to see what size you had. The 1 1/8 clamps are fat bar clamps. 7/8 is factory. You just need a set of factory clamps or a set of fat bars.

i just bought the pro tater se handlebars, atv mid bend. there 7/8 bars. the fatory bars are 7/8 bars but at the clamp area it is much larger, do you know what i mean? so now with my new pro taper bars at the clamp area are to small, they are tue 7/8 bars, unlike factory where at the clamp area it is larger.

so what i am asking is where can i get a good set of bar clamps to work properly with my stock stem.

ok just so we are clear here. Your new bars are the same size as the factory bars where all the switches and perches mount but they are larger than the factory bars where they mount?

Without looking at them then I'm gonna say what you have is a set of 1 1/8 bars then. They are 7/8 where the perches and grips mount but they are 1/1/8 where the clamps mount so you need a set of fatbar clamps like the ones I sent you.

Hope that helps. Stock clamps worked fine for me. Thats the best picture I have of the handlebars with the stock clamps.

bambam, can you get a better pic up of your bar clamps, are those the stock clamps correct, straight from factory? i think that maybe my problem, i recentlly bought my quad, its a 2003 400ex and i think the previous owner had put new bars on, ill post a pic of them and the clamps maybe youll know if there not stock.

those are 7/8 bars. they should work with your factory clamps just like BamBam said.

Mine are stock. I unbolted factory bars and then bolted up the pro-tapers. Clamps are stock. I think that your clamos may be after market. What type of bars came off of your atv?

Obviously those tags required there own clamps. They do look wider where the clamps grab as opposed to the rest of the handlebar. I cant be sure by looking at a photo on the internet.

Those are definitley not stock. 400 ex's never have come from the factory with tag bars and clamps.

yea they are, at the grips and where the headlight/start switch assembly mount the bars is 7/8, but where they mount at the clamp it is much larger, its about 1 1/16 inch.

I would look on this web site to see who is selling what. You can probably buy stock handlebar clamps for cheap here. There is no known demand for them.

yeah, motosport.com has oem parts, real good site to order from and they have good prices. thanks for alll your help bambam, also nice 400. how do you like your se bars anyways? i got them cause ive seen nothing but good responses bout them. what bend do you have?

You can also post that you are looking to buy them and see if anyone has them just sitting around and wasnt' really thinking about selling them. If you show interest, someone will sell them. Like I said before, I dont think that there is a big demand for them.

I like them alot. Forgot what bend they are, I think lo-bend. I will look in the morning. Good luck.
PS-See if pro-taper sells clamps it may be better to buy them instead of OEM. Just an idea.

yeah i was trying to find some pro taper clamps, but i couldnt find nothing, im gonna make some phone calls tomorow and see what i find before going oem.

the tag bars are a fat bar...or a 1 1/8" bar...they are not stock honda bars...stock honda bars are 7/8". your cheapest route would be to buy a set of stock honda clamps...let me look this afternoon after i get some sleep(11pm to 7 am shift)...i should have an extra set i'll sell ya...i just have to make sure that i have an extra set...

if you don't want stock, any clamp that is a 7/8" clamp for a honda will work...

To clear this up the STOCK bars are 7/8 the whole way even at the clamps. Aftermarket fat bars like that tag ones are 1 1/8 at the clamp and 7/8 at the perches.

If you ordered the protaper se bars then you can use the STOCK clamps. But if you ordered pro taper contour bars or tag t2 bars then you need fat bar clamps.

And the 400ex never came with Tag Bars and clamps.

i recently bought the quad about 4 weeks ago, dude had a twist throttle setup that was garbage, cracked and sticking pretty bad, so i bought a new motion pro twist setup. as i was replacing it i noticed that end of the bar was cracked at 4 spots, i think it was from his hand guards, the anchor that is in the bars was in bad shape. basically long story short, the bars were cracked pretty bad, so i ended up getting some new pro taper se which are very nice btw. ill post a pic in a mintue of the new setup.
