Chrome Bore piston/rings?

I have this chrome bore cylinder and don't know much about it. Like what year piston/rings should be ran in it.

The pic shows that there is no cast iron liner. Scribed into the bottom 'AHM OB4-S DECK 8-8-86', 'HART' in black marker.

Any help from the experts? Thanks

im betting its a nykasyl bore. is this a duncan ported cylinder? they really like to nik cylinders.

I'm almost sure that it isn't a Duncan cyl.
But not sure after that.

Can you take a pic of the under side of the intake. If it's a duncan Loren ingraves the date and style of porting, Paul Turner did also.

I think that HART means Honda ART - They're stock piston's have ART stamped in them too!!!

8-8-86, would have been around the right year Marty was riding for Honda.

After wiping it off better, it reads 'AHM OB4 -.9 DECK 8-8-86

Can standard rings be used in a chrome/nikasil bore (oem, wiseco, niks, pro-x?)

:D I suspect, you at some time, must have worked on small engines & remember when Briggs had a different ring set for a aluminum bore block & then a chrome set for the sleeved block IC engines, reason your asking about the rings.

To be honest I was told that this cyl might need different rings other than what comes in aftermarket piston kits. My understanding is that most rings have plated faces that are not compatable with a chrome/nikasil surface.

Your Nikasil bore is compatible with any aftermarket ring set you can purchase. You will need to check that the cylinder is in good shape due to the nikasil lining if there are any problems with bore it will need to be renikasilled, or resleeved.

If I recall, some steel alloys gall against chrome, so if it is indeed chrome (and not nicasil) you might want to give someone a call.

I did years ago, not long though, smoking just wasnt my thang.
Chewed tobacco for quite a few years though.
