View Full Version : 99 400ex burning alot of oil

Its seems like i am filling up my oil tank after a good day of riding, is this normal? Is is time for a new piston/rings? Valves? please feel me in....

no not normal. most likely rings and piston but valve seals are only like $5 so i would replace them while you are in the motor to.

Engine sounds "noisy" "rattle" at high rpms. Is this a symptom of the same?

could be piston slap. or valves out of adjustment. or timing chain stretched.

also u should check your oil on cold start after 3 minutes run time. not after riding all day.

Got ya, it was checked the day after the ride.....cold start after we rode it out of the trailer. Thanks for the heads up, sounds like time for a big bore kit!!

research before you do it. if you do 426 or bigger i'd suggest hd studs. i personally like 416 cause of reliability. my 416 gets hot enough can't imagine a 440. thats why i installed the spal 4' fan.
