i've read/been told they use the same rear axle, but my question is this; are all related components the same? sprocket splines, sizes, hub nut, etc etc etc? or if i got a 250r axle would i need certain other parts to come with it?

same question applies to 450r axles too i guess.

I am pretty sure you can put a 250r axle in a 400ex carrier, but you need the rear 250r hubs also. The hubs are not interchangable.

You should be ok i have the wierdest setup i have ever seen i actually called rpm and this is what they set me up with......i have a +2+4 rpm dominator for a 450r and a 450r bearing carrier with a 400ex sprocket hub and a 400ex stock axle nut and break hub and everything works like a charm no grinding or rubbing nothing just smooth sailing u should be fine with the 250r axle but u may need to change the sprocket hub to get it to fit your ex......

if my 400ex axle fits perfectly with the 250r carrier than a 250r axle would fit perfectly with a 400ex carrier, and there is not a single problem with the sprocket hub not fitting cause obviously it works flawlessly;)

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the 2 rear wheel hubs. The splines are different.
