Alright so I'm putting together (2) 09 KTM 450SX's for this season, and I am pretty much stumped on the exhaust. On my practice quad, I have a DASA slip-on ( all that was available at the time ) and now I'm looking to throw out the slip-on's and put a full system on, but when I called DASA, they told me that none of there full systems will pass sound requirements anymore.

So what is the sound requirement exactly for amateur riders? Also, what is everyone doing with there system to get it down to spec? I'm stumped here and DASA says there working on something again for the SX to meet sound spec, but its only about 3 weeks til our first race, and I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks, Jay

i was never tested, i dont think it is a strictly enforced rule in amateur ranks...but I could be wrong, pro and pro-am could be different though

Yea for us they weren't strict. At all the nationals I went to they didn't check! Just width, not even killswitch!

they didnt check me either, as for the killswitch they told me to put my hand in the air while they pulled it

Jay, you should be fine bud, I haven't seen any of the AM guys get checked at all...

The width thing they only check because you have to drive through the gate to get access to the track, otherwise they probably wouldn't bother with that either hahaha.

From my personal experience, they only check the people that are obviously too loud in the inspection line. Just don't rev the mess out of it.

Alright thanks guys! I've been pulling my hair out over this. I'm just going to order up a full system from DASA and not worry about it.

:D

I think if they did actually check AM's it was supposed to be 99db along with Pro/Pro-am. That was the last number i had heard. It seems to change all the time. I know at the EDT's they only checked the Pro's and Pro-Am for sound.

i heard next year there gonna start doing random checks like 1 outta 20 or something like that, and in 011 everyones gonna get checked

they test at random for random things! if you fail, just go back threw and more than likely they wont check it again

i dunno what it is for the quads, but i heard that the AMA is bringing the noise limit down to 96 for the bikes. i think its lame. i mean, i can see sound restrictions in the woods, but why on a track?

Because some tracks are close to houses and not everybody likes racing. If one person complains the promoters hear about it and so on. If we want to keep racing we need to do whatever the AMA asks.

i feel that if someone is going to move into a house near a race track they should know what they are getting themselves into.

Some tracks are built near houses that have been in place for years.

People arent going to just pick up and leave, they'll complain until the county shuts the track down, or the track enforces noise rules.

3 tracks near me got shut down for noise violations. It sucks.:(

I thought they have already done that? I think 96 decibals is the legal limit for all ama/atva events?

the way you measure your sound is different than the way we measure our sound. your 94 is actually equivalent to our 96
