I have a 2002, my brother is looking at an 2003 the seller said the 2002s have bad trannys after a while he said the gears just grind down? Any body ever herd of that?

Never heard of tranny problems on the EX. Granted transmissions will wear and fail after awhile, but premature failures on an EX is not a widespread issue.

i think the dude is full of crap bout the trannys. im pretty sure all the trannys r the same, but if u can buy it cheap enough get it anyway and replace it. its not hard to put one in.

id say the tranny is the hardest part to do on a 400ex IMO i would not consider it a easy fix but it is most likely the clutch is what is bad.

banshee and 400ex are the 2 easiest motors that i have ever worked on. buy a manual and it tells u exactly how to split the casings and change the tranny.
