I reacently got an 87' 250R it has been sittin outside for about 10 years i tore it down to the frame replaced all the bearings and painted it up. I put the engine back in without opening it up. I could not belive it but it started on the fourth kick now i cant get it to run right. It has a PWK carb with 162 main 62 slow and the clip is on the second grove. I do not have breather box on it yet i will have one this week i don't no if that makes a differance.this is my first quad and just found this site wish i would of found this a while ago.it idles good when i get into to about half throttle or more it starts breaking up.

When you say breather box what do you mean? Are you running the engine without the filter clamped on? That would cause it to run poorly.

175 main jet
50-52 pilot jet
DEG or DEJ needle in the middle clip position.

Air screw turned out 1.5-1.75 should get you were you need to be to start out.

replace the spark plug with a new one. B8RES (the R is the most important part in the part number) gap it at .018"

gap your stator pickup to the same .018"

If your coil wire is long enough still, remove the cap, cut off 1/4" and reinstall the cap and make sure it fits tight on the spark plug
