Whats the reality of quads in the sand? I get so many mixed reactions when we say we are going to the dunes. One of my best riding buddies has got it in his head that none of his trailers/cars/bikes/quads will ever see sand.

Whats the reality of sand?

I'd rather ride in the sand than in the mud. Quads that only see the dunes are always much cleaner than quads that only see dirt.

If you ride in the sand, wash your machine thoroughly after every trip, lube everything up and you'll be good to go.

I have done far more damage to my quad in the logging roads that in sand. Plus after I get home form riding I don't have to spend hours getting the mug off the engine. Even after I wash it I still find places that need more cleaning. Sand is the only way to go!

That is the ONLY thing my quads see is sand. We bought my wife's YFZ new in '05 and that is ALL we have rode it in. Not only does it still look nearly new but I haven't ever had any issues with the sand hurting things. We do run synthetic oils, K&N filters with outerwears and normally don't lube anything from the outside. (shooting oil, WD-40, etc on the outside of a pivot point) This will only collect more sand to the site causing excessive wear. Also be very careful when greasing any joints that you don't put too much in and blow out the rubber seal on the bearings.. without the seal on the bearing it WILL destroy the bearing very quickly.

i always ride in sand. seeing ur from campbell your probably going to go to pismo right? just make sure you wash down your quad and wd40 it real good, because the ocean salt can rust some parts from what i've been told. so i just wash and wd40 everytime i'm done and my quad still looks and runs good.

Just stay out of the water and wash your toys when you get home and they will be fine.

Tell you friend that's why they're called "offroad vehicles".

They're SUPPOSE to thrash it up.

Sure, they may need a little TLC afterward...but don't buy an atv, utv (what have you) if you're gonna be a sissy :blah:
