Just looking for opinions on what you guys think about running an air box or not.

I have an 86' 250R project that I want to build back up into a woods machine. I was wanting to run an air box on it but I have had a few people tell me that it would be fine to not run the air box and just use a good filter and outer wear.

I have not been real big on this idea because I have seen few K&N filters just not work worth a darn in the woods. Seems like they were always needing attention.

My last 400EX, I ran an air box with an opened up lid and a well oiled UNI filter and never had an issue with it.

Anybody got a really cheap stock air box and boot? Every time I bid on one on e-bay, I get out bid in the last minute of the auction.

I'm wondering the same thing. I just bought my R, and the guy put a 38mm Keihn on it...can I even run a stock airbox setup with the upgraded carb??

an open airbox setup(with a UNI filter)will be fine for the woods/trails. although, if you encounter ride wet conditions i suggest setting it up with the box lid.

if you know your jetting(how to) and you know that you'll be riding wet conditions and vise-versa. you can jet accordingly.

in my riding experience air boxes are overrated. i had two quads with air boxes and still have gotten them filled with mud/water. i found a filter-outerware with just a sturdy sipport works well and has better airflow. my 2 cents.

What I was wondering is how well no air box will work in the woods?

Just using a K&N filter with an outer wear. Or run an open air box with the same or to use a good oiled up foam filter with an open air box.

I hate to build this R and blow the motor because I had a half ***** filter set up.

run the airbox with out the lid. i ride tite woods with varying terrian and i'd much rather have the box surrounding my filter.
