i know this post has been done hundreds of times b4 but i need to find tha absolute best pipe for the 400 im gonna get in spring.... i hear the sparks x-6 is the best for modded engines and the x-4 is for non-moded engines, but i wana keep my options open and i wanna know whats the next best system next to sparks, if i dont have a system added that u like on ur 400, tell me about it

of the ones u chose.....i chose the big gun because i have heard it is good for power with little mods, and or a fully stroked out motor. and of course a deep sound is a plus.

Stay with Engine Builders, TC, CT, Duncan, LRD, Sparks, Hetricks, and there is more but those are the most well known....

thats what im told. but it seems a lot of people on this board prefer the x-6 to the x-4 even if u just simple mods like a pipe and filter

Well the TC is $339 because it is only a Slip-On. Most of the others are from about $430-$560. Some of them you can get a Spark Arrestor if you want it for extra, but if not I don't think so. If you get the Sparks get the X-6 no matter what. They say the X-6 works just as well on a stock motor as the X-4, then you will have it when you are ready for some motor mods.

Well with any kind of Piston kit, get a Cam too or it won't be worth it.

Well really I wouldn't get a Hot Cam. Some guys say they are not so "Hot". I would get an Engine Builders Cam, really from the same place you got your Pipe. If you get a TC Pipe, get a TC Cam. If you get a Sparks Pipe, get the Sparks Cam. I would also go with a 416 first instead of the 440.

Well really if you just get a 400 I wouldn't go that far over the first time. You will have an extra over bore for down the road. Really most guys say they don't feel much of a difference between a 416 and 440 either. Actually if I was to do a 440 I would bore it to a 416, then stroke it to a 440, or bore it to a 425, then stroke it to a 465.

416 cause you can bore it over other 1mm on the stock sleeve. A 440 you need to install a new sleeve and you may have more heat build up.

well with either the 416 or 440 kit, which system would u prefer, the White Brothers Pro Meg, or Big Gun Race system cause they're the closest 2 in my poll and i wanna make a final decision which would go best with the kits

I would go with the yosh pipe. If you can't afford that a big gun would work fine. The 416 will give you a good band. If you build it right. Heres a idea, 87mm (416) JE piston 10.8:1, xr cam, or hot cam stage 2, FCE 39mm carb, grind the welds out of the stock head pipe, with slip-on should and will rock the boat!!!

Well really I would get a TC, Sparks, Duncan, or LRD Pipe. Then you can get a Cam from the same company you got the Pipe from, which works better because the Cam and Pipe and designed to work together, and then get a Piston Kit from them as well if you want too. The 416 is a good enough improvement that you will look like this :D I will be going with the 416 or 425 in mine hopefully next fall. Also I suggest checking into a 39MM FCR Carb. I think something like a LRD Pipe, 39MM FCR Carb, JE 10.8:1 416 Piston, LRD Cam, LRD Valve Springs, and LRD Rockers would be an awesome setup. You could do the same with Sparks or Duncan, then with TC get the Pipe, 39MM FCR Carb, JE 416 Piston, TC Cam, and then a Clutch Kit.

Well the Pro-Meg is for modded Engines, but I don't think any other Pipes make the HP like the Engine Builders do....

I'm not a white bros fan at all. That's just me. I would put one on my bikes. Just me.

Yes Warriorman the Lrd set-up sound s good. But if he's low on cash, I think he would get a good start from samething like I posted. Thats what I would do, cash is just a little tight right now.

Well if it has to be one of those 2, I would get the White Brothers, but for the price of the WB, you can get a LRD. If I was looking at getting a Pipe today, mine choices would be the LRD, Sparks, or TC.

The LRD's are $435 I believe. Make sure if you get the LRD to get it in Ceramic Coating instead of Chrome so it won't turn blue or rust. They seem to be nice pipes, and I would buy one real quick if I didn't already have one. After the Pipe I would get a 39MM FCR Carb, then get a 416 Piston and Cam.

I was planning on getting a crome lrd, you say it turns blue or rusts, how bad will it end up looking?

I still say to go with the Hetrick. I get it with a new filter delivered to my door from Hetrick for 404 and this pipe gave my 400 a nice power gain even over the white brothers I used to run. On top of that they where awsome to work with.

CT's pipe kit comes with:
Mid-Range Complete Headpipe, Muffler & disc type spark arrestor

it says its beter to get this for stock engines and if u plan to do future engine mods it wil be a good pipe, but without engine mods ur HP gain will still be better than stock but not as good as if u have engine mods

should my local shop be able to bore my cylinder to a 416? i really don't want to send it away. i want a 416 with an J.E. 11.1:1 piston, hotcams stage 2, and 39 fcr. i wanna built it myself. do most shops have the stuff to bore cylinders?

Well I have seen a few LRD and they turn a good blue, but most don't or won't rust if you keep them clean and all shined up. They have a new Pipe now that comes in Ceramic Coating, so I would get that over Chrome because it shouldn't turn blue or won't rust, plus it looks like Chrome.
I want to know how the Hetrick compares to the Sparks.
SpeedDemin, PM RippinitUp7 and ask him about his LRD and for a picture. That is the one I would get. Also CT is a good company, but my riding buddy got a pipe from them and ended up waiting a month or more because they had to make it. LRD, Sparks, or TC should have them in stock. CT is also a great pipe.

Your local dealership can bore you cyl to a 416 with no trouble. Then you just build the motor your self.
