I am in the market for a set of new shocks for my 250r. I do a lot of trail riding and plan on trying out some amateur mx racing this summer. I wanna spend around 500 dollars on a set of shocks. I found a set of new triple rate works shocks with ressies for about 500 shipped on ebay and I found a set of new triple rated elkas without ressies for 485.00 shipped on ebay. I know elka makes a much better shock than works but the works has ressies. Which of these shocks are better or would you recommend? Any other recommendations would be much appreciated also. Thanks guys.

How do you know Elka makes a much better shock than Works? I'd bet if both shocks were properly set up for your weight, machine, and riding style you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. You'd be happy with either one.

I have a set of non res. works tripple rate front shocks on my project 250R. I was thinking about selling them and getting something else for it but they seem to be hard to beat for the money. I know there are better shocks out there but I am just going to use my R for a play machine so I think what I have already will be fine.

I have talked to and sent out a good number of e-mails to different companies as well and Works were the best people that I talked to. They gave me the most information and were willing to talk to me on the phone with out pushing to sell me something.

I think I may send them my front and rear and let them rebuild what I have now to be set up how I want them to be. Depending on cost, I may get them to install res on mine.

Guess it depends on how much you want to spend. If you buy used then you are probably going to have to pay to get them set up for you plus the cost of the shocks themselves.

I am still unsure of what I am going to do with mine.

The thing you have to realize is that both sets are going to be off the shelf. They will be mildly setup for your weight but not specifically your machine or riding style.

There is two ways to I would look at it, both will end up costing more down the road.

1. Buy the works and down the road get them re-built by a PEP dealer.
2. Buy the elkas and down the road get rezzies added to them and valved for you.

I'd probably go with the works cause they have reservoirs. If you buy them new and don't beat on them too bad, you could always sell and upgrade later.

E bay is hit or miss! The shocks might be sprung for your weight but not tuned for you and your bike. Why not buy directly from works? That way you can have them valved before they ship and everything will be hunky-dorry! Works customer support is very good as well as some others.

both auctions advertise that they will be setup according to rider weight, riding style and a arms. The elka auction says allow 2 weeks for delivery so I'm guessing this is allowing time for setup. You guys may be right though. That's one thing that I hate about ebay. You never are 100 percent sure about what your getting until you get it. Even with new stuff.

Is the ebay seller a performance shop or just some dude?

both of them appear to be from a performance shop. Both sellers sell a ton of new aftermarket atv parts. Here is the link to the elka's:
