Need a little advice on rear linkage set up.

I have a project 250R that I am trying to rebuild.

I have an 86' frame with an 89' swingarm. The dog bone part of the rear linkage is from an 86'.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to running this. Should I do something different with it? Should I use an 88-89 dog bone or something else?

And why. I like to know why so that I can understand how it should work.

Thanks for the info.

I ran into this issue as well, but the main thing you need is your dogbone and shock to be the same year.

If I remember correctly, the 86 dogbone with the 88 shock will drop it down and you'll loose travel. An 86 dogbone with an 86 shock on the 89 swingarm should work fine.

Well I think I have an 86' rear shock, but I do not know for sure.

Can anyone give a center to center length for the mounting points of the two different shocks?

I guess that is the only way that I will know for sure what shock that I really have.

That's correct, the short shock combined with the 86 link is going to lower the ride height, and take away some travel.
