The 1989 plate has a deep, round inset on the back (in the center) where the updated washer/bearing setup presses into it. Sorry I don't know more!

Look for HB9 on the casting.....'86-88 had HA2

Like THEDEATONS said.....the center inside has a bored surface for the washer & bearing to reside.

I'll post pics of the differences if you would like...

I'm thinking if you have all the other components except the pressure plate....can you simply shorten the push-rod to get it to work ???

Unfortunately i have 3 with ha2 marked on them. I somehow misplaced the 89. Do you guys think shortening rod would be ok?

If ya think about it...that would make up for the bearing & washer...so if you reduced the length of the rod by the amount that the '89 pressure plate differs from the one you have and had a bit of play....you don't want it SOLID or you''ll burn your plates.

i'm gonna give it a try

A machine shop should be able to hook up that recession, or a Dremel...

Turns out one of my plates looks like its been machined lower than the casting bosses. Does any one know the lenghth of the push rod for the 89, i have a few and one is a little shorter than the others.

'89 Pushrod measures 8-1/32"

My Vernier is only a 6" so I couldn't get exact.....

ok....I shortened the Push Rod.....but then realized the Transmission shaft that the Clutch pusher rests against is why the Pressure plate has the relief machined into it.

If you install the Clutch Pusher,Bearing & Washer then the '86-'88
style pressure plate it, without a push rod you'll see it fits tight against the transmission shaft.

I can't see tearing the whole transmission apart to shorten that shaft for the sake of a $55 pressure plate.

Or machining the '86-'88 style pressure plate.
