just bought a 03 kfx400 in decent condition, for $1000, the only wrong with it is the rear bearing carrier is busted. just wondering how to replace it,

also seems to have a hard time starting, the guy we bought it off of thinks its bad gas and it was sitting awhile not being started

I would definately get a manual for the carrier bearing assy. Or, do what I did and start taking everything off until you get to it. Drain the gas and clean the carb. If that doesn't work, check you valve clearance.

Man sounds like you got a deal! the carrier is simple fix just take apart and line parts in order then replace the broken put back together in order If you were close Id come do it for you its not that hard

yeah seems like it, just cleaned the carb fired right up, the carrier is busted in half, seems like the bearing exploded inside, just order a whole carrier, and might have to shim the valves, alittle valve train noise

Dude you got a great deal where are they when I'm looking? The carrier is not a big deal find one on Ebay. I would buy a manual if you intend to keep it because it will need some maintenence and the manuals are worth it.

Nice job! I picked my 03 z400 up for $1300 and the guy I got it from said it had some engine issues. When I looked at it and tried to start it I knew it was just the carb. One bottle of carb cleaner later, I had a perfect running z! Ebay has carrier bearings all the time, shouldnt be hard or expensive to find.

Check your timing chain. Could also possibly have an aftermarket cam in it. They make more noise then stock.

it does have an aftermarket chain, or just from being rebuilt, but my brother other 400 has cams and sounds like stock
