wire frayed

ok i was washing my 400 and i noticed that this wire is frayed where it gose into the moter its down by the shifter what wire is this and dose this harm anything?

any bare wire can cause a short...

i am guessing it is the wire for neutral...

Yep thats what it is. Make sure you fix it you don't want it to short.

would it caus my 4 wheeler not to start and what would the best way to fix it be cus its like frayed where it gose in there like the ruber just got ripped off but the copper still there and i dont think eleical tape would work should i just put some silicone around it?
