That looks awesome man, so did you just use some snowmobile skis? What kind of metal did you use for the bracket to mount them to the hubs? Nice job man

yea all i did was take a peice of 1/8 inch peice of stainles steel and bend it cut the holes and then counter sunk them so it centers themself on the wheele studs.yes it is just bolted to the hub it makes it alot harder to steer but not unbealable once you get moving. Also it takes alot to get moving but wont once i finish with the skis. im ganna mold a new bottom to them so they glide on the snow better and i should have an update on how they work after tom night cause we are suposed to get some serious snow woohoo lol cant wait hope they do workas good i i hope lol alot of work gone to waste if they dont

How are you locking the hubs in place? By this I mean, how are you making sure that if you get enough air to get the skis high enough off the ground, the tips won't pivot down, then dig into the ground when the front end comes down?

Thats a good point, that would really suck if that happened. Maybe he should zip tie his front brake lever down, that might do it, lol.

well its snowing right now :D so in a couple of hours it will be test time but what i got to do is my dad broguht some steel square rods home a foot prolly weighs like 3 pounds im gonna weld that on the back to get the skis to ballence front to back when they come out of the air. It should work zip tieing the brake wouldnt work becasue when i was driving around last night the skis go up and down alot and that movement would be lost if i ziptied the brake. I definitly still have work but its at least still ridable. lol tonight is gonna be fun

killed300ex
12-25-2002, 11:09 AM
yes they are strong enoguh to take wheelies ect but i first have to ballence them so they dont fold under and kill my plastic lol

How much snow did we end up with about 2 feet?

I am in the process of doing a project much like this one. What I have considered to keep the ski's from folding under is a short piece of rubber coated cable. If your skis are set up similar to what I have (they look like it), there should be someplace on the ski to either loop and bolt it, or otherwise secure it somehow. From your pics it looks like there is a pair of eyes that is just in front of the leaf spring mount. What I considered doing is putting a bolt through there and looping the cable around that and looping the other end around a place on the a-arm. How much slack is needed, for travel I dont know though, because you want enough to let the ski front travel up and down with the terrain.

here is what i suggested a while back for a project like this. 4 bungy chords stratigicly placed.

Ya i am doing something similar to your guys' project also. The bungee cords are good ideas, it may look a lil' goofy but it saves the plastics. lol...i've heard that they work good, is this true?

I think it would save you some weight if you had put on plastic skis instead of the steel ones.
