I'm getting new A-arms within the next two weeks.
I was wondering what brand and length would be best for Hairscramble racing (woods racing). I know what would be positives and negatives for widing.....but for increased length what would be the effects.
Thanks

we run +1 burgard a arms on a z400....never any problems. i ran +1 housers on my 400 and now +1 long travels on my R. try to stick with a close to stock width for hare scrambles and gncc...you'll do fine:)

Most guys with 400's get +1 a-arms and then 4:1 offset rims which ends up making the front end only 1 inch wider then stock.

hmm sounds like to me +1 a arms and 4-1 rims would be stock width?? cause i thought stock offset was 3-2.???correct me here

Well actually there was a bunch of talk about how the stock rims really were, and Extremeracer167 said it's about an inch wider then stock with the 4:1.

Just bolted on a pair of 4:1 offsets & 22" Holeshots to stock arms. (I havent got my +1's in yet)... This Technically made the total front end more narrow than stock... with the taller tires the quad appears almost funny looking compared the the cool look of the mx setups. Athough I won't be keeping this combo forever, its hard to believe how nible it is in a tight woods..a good lesson in the importance of front end width. If you would have told me, I would have thought you full of b.s.

The 4:1 with 1" XC swingarm would be the best combo...

BMW, Are you going to race XC or MX?

My personal goal is to race xc this summer David...but I have always liked TT... it's just that practice areas areas not as readily available. I mx'd on yz250 years back and got hurt pretty bad..I haven't got over that on big jumps. Love the climbs and woods. Pyramid Valley is about 4 miles away however...

Yeah I think TT would be really fun to do. Only bad thing is you need one killer Motor for TT. There is no TT tracks around here at all. I don't care for jumping, that's why I am doing XC. Doing good in XC is going to be my goal... Good luck.

hey pappy, what is that magical width size for running xc?

Pappy

run a +1 a arm and the narrow offset rims. if ya decide to run on an mx track....use the wider offset. best of both worlds:p

so what your saying is plus 1" overall width for a raptor? what it the exact width most of the top riders are at?45",46", 47"? any info would be great...
thanks

if i was spendin the money i would just stay with the stock arms, and get some zero preload shocks. Most tracks you wont really notice that extra 1 inch, unless for some reason it causes you to get friendly with a tree, and the shocks will lower the front end and make it more stable, and you will also have some sweet shocks, i forgot to see if you already had shocks though.:huh

works triples w/ rezzies, stock rear. thinking about talking to the quad shop about diff. setup.

my 400 was at 47 .....and i thought at some points it was too wide. id say 45 or 46 would be the target area. if the raptor feels tippy....try getting the elka's with ssd. other then that....just ride and practice.

Yeah stay around stock width. Some +1's are the widest you would want or need.

i never had a raptor...i have ridin several. i like them alot. i know its shortcomings can be solved fairly easily.

i was faster on it in the woods then i was on my 400:huh

I bet if there were two pappy's the pappy on the 400 would beat the pappy on the raptor.

I'd put money on it.

the +1 isn't just for with as much as it is for travel length! The longer the travel the more your front tires will stay on the ground witch means better control. top pros are in the 14-15inch range and stock is 9"

Dave400ex

Yeah Rick Cecco said the same thing. He said they don't run the +1's for width, which is why they put the 4:1 wheels on. He said it's all for the travel.

660,,,
I ran the Woods and well roads for 4 hours with a guy with this setup... on his 660.... We traded several times. He had +3's.
Not good for woods. Tight trails were very difficult for this bike..
I rode it and confirmed this....I was quite proud of the ex..as in the tight areas I dogging him nonstop... only to get seriously roosted on the open well roads...now on the long inclines the Sparks piped Raptor would hit 3rd and and say goodbye..

Just wait til you get your 440 kit or whatever then the Raptor won't pull away so much, if at all.

Bill Ballance is running around 48-49 inbches wide on his R. I have raced with him once. He didn't lap me either!

Actually, Bill is at 45" wide! I run against him at the Mid-Souths all the time.

My bad he told me he was sitting near 48 at the Hallett Gold Rush. Maybe I didn't hear right. I stand corrected.

He could also change his Width from track to track?
