What do you got to do to flip the front rims because of the valve stem hitting the brakes?

You gotta drill a new hole on the other side of the rim for the valve stem. Then you gotta plug up the original valve stem hole. Easiest thing to do is buy some wheel spacers. Got a set for my ex for less than 25 bucks on ebay.

break down the tire/rim
drill 3/8" hole on other side of rim
put new valve stem in new hole
and put new valve stem in old hole (but reversed)
so that the cap will be inside the tire
I have it done on my wife and two daughters quads
they are not agressive riders but they love the added
width and stability
I can get some pictures if you like

front wheels before flipping
(note the front brake caliper is protected inside the wheel)

after flipping rims
brake caliper not protected but quite a bit wider in relationship to the front fenders
(there are spacers on the rear)

what spacers did you get?
I also hear that they rob you of your power.?is it true

got spacers off ebay, dont remember the brand name
anything you do that increases rotational mass or weight will drop performance (even changing to a heavier tire)
the spacers I used are cheapest and are not very heavy, (no noticable performance change) there are a few different types
bolt spacer type (cheapest and probably weakest)
disk type, looks like a donut (pretty strong and weigh more)
and hub spacers that replace stock hub (very strong and weigh most)

flipping the front rims added about 3" to each side
so I went with the 3" spacers on the rear also
makes it 6" wider in front and rear
the stability is so much better, it use to come up on 2 tires on every corner or off camber trail
(great for the sand dunes too)

remember that evertime you run spacers or flipped rims god kills a kitten. thats a quote from another member that wrote the first sticky thread in steering and suspension .you might read it before making the change

upper left hand corner click on ATVRIDERS FORUM then the second line down, click on STEERING AND SUSPENSION and then click the top line (sticky) . one of my twin boys has a 250ex and it is a great and fun bike, but is a little tippy and i understand why u want to do this but it is realy not the way to , i know eveyone that has this setup is going to argue this but what the heck here we go

it looks real nice.
what website did you get the spacers at.?
can you race through the trails and race(not MX) with spacers on.?

I got them off ebay, spacers are great if you dont flat land jumps over 6-8 feet hight or weigh 300 pounds
if your 150 pounds you can hammer it as hard as you want through trails and they are fine for drag racing on 250ex

not a direct bolt on but depending on your ability you can make stuff happen
better to check out the hid head lights (super bright)
but not cheap

will i aint no fabricater i know that, but how much do the HID's cost.?
can you get them in white/color.?
450rJam

prices vary but for a good hid set up your prob. looking at 100-150

I looked them up on ebay. that is arealy good idea there is a cap that coves the hole and to fill the tire with air ther is an adapter that threds in to the hole once you remove the cap.

I am curious about the driveability now. Three inches per side changes the steering geometry a bunch. The bump steer is what concerns me. Is it harder to steer and rougher over uneven obstacles? For high-speed directional stability-in the absence of a steering stabilizer- I know you can “toe out” the front to settle it down some.
I guess I am asking if it tracks well at speed.
pitbiker2269
12-04-2010, 08:38 PM
yeah it handles a little different at speed but you can only really notice it like 5th gear down the road. other than that the steering is not really that bad.

If you compair it to stock...... its so much more stable in corners its unreal, mine tracts fine at all speeds but there is more bump steer (driving over rough trails or ruff sand dunes you will notice more "jaring" in the bars
if you compair to +arms....... the arms win hands down, its the correct way to gain stability without the added bump steer, may change shock angle and suspension ability to take big jumps, and its more ex$pen$ive
if you have the funds get the arms, if not flip the rims
(you can always flip them back after you save up for arms)
