I used to have a 2004 400 ex. SUPER low hours on it. Had a rev box and a yosh exhaust on it. I sold it and got a new 08 400ex. The new one RIPS. Feels a ton faster... Did they regear it? The engine is the same bore.

Did they make any changes??

I know its 35lbs heavier.. They did gear it down.. that would explain the 3rd gear wheelies. ahaha. I like it.. Its set up nice. Wish i did that with my old one.

The new 08 400ex is 35lbs heavier due to the reverse. And from what the other guy said, its geared a bit lower. That is what would cause that increase in power that im feeling over my old one...

I was wondering this myself. I found videos of this dude on youtube beating some bikes that give me a lot of trouble. I was very impressed with the performance of his bike with the mods he had. I believe it's an 08 model. Check these out:

This guy might even be a member to this site I am not sure. The video of him hanging with the Banshee really got me pumped that the 400EX is a pretty bad***** machine.

With a 13 tooth front and my mods third gear wheelies are no problem, I have no desire to try wheelies in fourth or fifth...

Ya, i wasnt really trying to do a wheelie competion, just stating that this one will come up when getting on it in third. My old one wouldnt. I mean, i could MAKE it happen, but not just cruisin around and gunnin it...

No actually it's stock gearing, don't have to force it at all, I can just punch it a mid 5th and it'll lift right up.

Reverse will NOT add 35lbs. to the quad. They had to make other changes or somebodies got some numbers mixed up.

mine did wheelies in 5th no problem:) it was a blast, keeping it on the ground 1st-3d was hard in a drag but 4th and 4thi could lean back with no problem and up she went, never touched the gearing

we had a warrior 350 before this bike and my wife swears the warrior bone stock had more power than our new 08 400ex. She said once we added the pipe, twin air and drilled the air box that the ex is now faster. We love ours
:D

Warrior is def not faster, they are like 22hp stock and ex is 27hp stock.

horsepower numbers are irrelavent. especially only 4hp difference. The gearing and weight difference can make one faster than the other.

the extra 35 pounds is honda's new way of weighing their quads. They're going on curb weight (with all fliuds), where before 08, they went on dry weight(without any fluids). so really the '08s are the same weight as the '05-'07.
