I have an 87 with the update kit and complete hinson cutch. The clutch pull is extremely hard. I've changed the cable a bunch of times and was told to put stock springs back in but nothing worked. Any suggestions or ideas?

aftermarket clutches tend be be a bit more stiff. if everything is correct and it is still 'very' stiff try a hydralic clutch lever system.

if you have your clutch setup rite it will be hard to pull.

PRO RAPTOR ADJUSTABLE CLUTCH LEVERS

Choose from the three positions according to your clutch pull and riding style:
Top position for increased cable pull
Middle position, same as standard lever assembly
Bottom position provides an easier pull (325% less effort)
Cable adjuster is an anodized pivoting regulator, easy to adjust and eliminates cable drag in all positions
Vulcanized, exclusive silicon rubber grip for improved control in all weather conditions
Needle bearing for free lever movement; available as a standard size or a shorty lever. mid west action cycle

somethings gotta be wrong. unless your not use to the hard clutch pull. try a differnt lever and if that doesnt help that means its somethin inside the motor.

Im running an ASV lever right now. Should I try another lever? I have one with a stock clutch and I know the Hinson one should be a bit stiffer, but even other people who've tried it say its really stiff. The only thing they've suggested is going back to the OEM springs and I've already done that. I know PEP use to make that E-Z pull clutch, has anyone ever used that?

An EZ pull lever is a must for every quad! R clutches have always been harder to pull in than most other quads. You can also run an older CR perch and lever combo, thats what the EZ pull basically is. I run heavier springs and did the 89 clutch upgrade and the pull on the lever isn't too bad.

I know its ghetto, but I took a pair of channel locks and bent the clutch arm straight down by the clutch itself, it definitely made a difference.

i had the same problem with one of my r's
make sure you dont have the cable wire tied to the frame and also make sure the arent any tight bends in the cable. lube the cable to

man you will get use to it. mines hard as hell to pull compared to these new 450's. but it really doesnt bother me. do some wrist and finger workouts.

When you say "Complete HINSON"....does that mean a Hinson Pressure plate ?

You can't use the '87 pressure plate for the '89 update kit.

If the Hinson pressure plate is for a '87 then that's your problem.

i'd have to agree. the 88 and back pressure plates arent machined for the flat washer and the tolerances arent near right for the combo of 89 and 88 back componants mixed.

how many plates are you running?

are they the correct plates?

where the plates soaked in oil prior to installation?

this can happen as it did to me when i was less knowledgable about clutch set-ups.
