thought about it, wouldn't do it myself i though. would say just give it time, i'll bet you'll see it somewhere by the end of the yr.

Doesn't the 700xx have a center chain drive? Pretty sure it can't be done unless someone proves me wrong.

who said you couldn't take the irs off the 700 and make it work for the 400 how about a irs 686cc "400ex" wicked is all i can say..

no irs.... if you didn't want to go that route, there are all kind little things around that could help you make your 700exx dreams come true.. jack shafts and the like. go talk to some old school 80's atv pullers from the midwest. they were makeing "hybrid" atvs before atvs were cool, my uncle had a 1400cc kawi powered quadracer 500, and then a 1200 kawi powered 250r.
custom fab didn't just show up when american chopper aired on tv

Yes but streetbike engines have drive sprockets on the same side as other ATV engines. I'm not sure how it works on the 700xx but if the sprocket is somewhere in the center than you have your hands full.

The xr650r hybrid is much easier and has already been done a couple times. If I had more time and money I would be doing that now.

i am thinking that main point of the swap would be about weight, something that a streetbike engine doesn't have going for it, and the xr650r swap is a good one i have seen it done, no agrument there, but this post was about the 700... not a xr650r.
if i had more money i would just turbo a 450, and be done with it, more power then is useable right there.

Isn't the 700xx engine just a xr650r engine only bored/stroked larger? I think it would be a lot easier doing the 650 if the 700 is a center drive

I agree with you 100%, the 700xx engine would be soooo expensive considering how new it is.

check this out if i had the cash i would have it

no its not. the 700xx is liquid cooled and has reverse.

the 650 is liquid cooled:rolleyes: Im pretty sure they are the same, just like the 660 raptor and the 700 raptor same engine just the 700 is a 660 with a 686 big bore kit from the factory.

the 700xx is a 650 with a big bore kit from the factory and reverse added

yes i already looked into this right when the 700xx came out. the front and rear sprockets wont line up unless you offset the motor like 6 inches or tried to put irs on the ex. the xr650 motor swap has been done before.

the 700 raptor and the 660 raptor do not have basically any parts that are the same. the casings and everything are different. but what if u put a jack shaft on the 700xx motor to extend the sprocket over, would it basically work then. what are the potential other problems that might arise.

so the differences from the XR650R to the 700XX

is like the 400ex and the XR400R

except the bore of course..
am i on the right track?

Honda did make a xl650 that is air cooled and had electric start. that is the most sought after hybrid motor because its hard to notice the difference's between the two.

ya you could use a jack shaft on it any thing is possible.

the xr and ex motors are close but the ex has electric start so it has a bigger stator to charge the battery. when the ex intro came out honda stated they beefed up the bearing on the ex for the added load on it and the trans gear ratio's are different to. and now the 05 and up have reverse added to.

i've seen many 650l swaps and rode one. it was great. i had a 650l and it was a torque monster but was a tank in the woods. if i could find one i will be doing the swap. you know that its a good motor because they have and the same design since the 83 600l. i had one of those to. good motor just didn't like the mud over the seat and blew it up.

The 700xx has a sort of jack shaft to make it a center drive has a regular side shaft like the 400ex
