The first pc is a clutch basket and it is toast!! The second pic is a piston. The carmel coloring you see below the rings is called blow by. It comes with age, The rings lose their tension. Lots of hours will le them do that!

cr 250 and its a 2001. i got a new pistion for it already. the crank was seazed but i got it unseazed its still stiff though so its getting replaced. unless you can just replace the bearing. from what i no though you cant on stock cranks. so i was wanting some help on splitting casings and pulling fly wheels i never did it before. and i was wondering if anyone hear could help me out on what cank to buy. or if anyone has a used one.

Service Honda will help you out with a new crank.

Replace the clutch basket!! Replace the piston and rings. Your local dealer or many other places can rebuild the crank, if you decide not to buy a new one.

nah i am not going to rebuild it because my dealer will probly carge 300 to rebuild it and i can get a new one of ebay for 250. so if i do basket should i do plates?

I would replace the basket and plates and fibers! You can mic the plates too see if there within specs. Then lay'em on a piece of glass to see if their warped. I would just by everything, but thats me> As far as ebay goes, be careful!! I would call Service Honda for a brand new one.

ya i usally dont like buying of ebay unless its brand new. ill have to mesure them out and see a brand new one is probly out of my price range i was just hopeing it would cost 500$ tops. the clutch basket was a surprise i never expected it. all i was going to buy was a crank 220$ gasket set 50$ swing arim bearings 30$ swing arm bolt 30$ and the piston and rings i already got. but now i had to add in a clutch basket 170$. without plates. and that right there is 510 so im kinda over as it is ha. but im all the way in canada so shipping on the stuff is rediculious i just guessed what id think it would cost. like a crank to buy hear would cost 400$ acording to my dealer. one of ebay is like 170-200 and the one i was looking at said it would cost 40$ to ship.

Well, if you were on a 500 dollar budget and your at 510 rightnow, I dont think thats too bad. Sucks that shipping is so much for Canada.

If the clutch basket wasn't so bad I'd tell ya' to use a file and knock down the high spots a little, but that one is grooved really bad from what I see in the pics.

If you need to save a little cash, I'd say that basket could be filed down to get another season out of it.

Just don't do it a second time.

I agree! If your in a pinch with cash flow (most of us are) You can knock down the high spots.

Just go slow and make sure not to take off any more than needed or change the angle.

I did the same thing with my '01 cr250 over a year ago and it's been working great since.

i know grooved baskets like that are bad, but what does it affect?

my basket looks just like that, and my clutch works as good as new.

Grooved baskets feel notchy and are harder to engage and disengage. You'd probably notice a significant improvement if you bought a new one.
