(That's over 30 years ago),....
when I first started to get grey hair....
We used to use water bottles that were mounted to the crossbars, of our handlebars.
This is Long before the idea of hydration packs in backpacks, and pretty much everyone who rode desert, had some type of one.
They came in various sizes, (usually about a quart),and various colors, and had a bracket that bolted on the crossbar, with a Velcro strap, that held it (the water bottle) securely in place on the bracket.
They would stay in place without sliding or wobbling, and I can attest to their durability, and ability to withstand a big crash,
(I am one of the original members of the "Over the Bars" club, and was a founding member of the infamous "Flying W").
I do still have one of these water bottles, but,... alas,...
no mounting bracket.
I would like to find another one and use it to carry extra fuel, as a small auxillary fuel can.
I realize that there are other types of portable fuel cans, flatpacks, 1 gal. cans that fit on cooler racks, and such,...
but I would like to find one of the old crossbar types.
Does anyone here know of a manufacturer, or brand name, of a water/fuel bottle that is mounted to the crossbar of your handlebars?
AHhhh, the memories,....
To be "Back in the Days".....
WHEN A "FLYING W" WAS FUNNY,...
AND DIDN'T HURT FOR 2 FRIGGI'N MONTH'S AFTERWARDS !!!
