Price wise, ESR

You want one custom made to you, CT Racing
Want full drag, FTZ, but, if is was to be full drag, you wouldnt need the P/V.

somewhere between 20-200 hp. Depending on how much money you wanna spend.

How much you got and how far you looking to go ?

I think $4,000 should get you a decent engine...:eek2:

talk to arlen tell him what you want for a power band. my sparks motor and lrd motor made about the same power. lrd motor was cheaper to build. he will set you up trans, clutch, carb, cylinder, pipe, i wanted a mid-mid top motor and they both came trough for me nice long usable power band. he now owns led so look him up last motor he did took about 3 weeks to get

if you got that kinda squash to throw at a power plant, get yourself a Puma cylinder. have it ported for low-mid, run a TRX5 pipe and 38 or 39mm keihen carb.

no problem making upwards of 60hp on gas with this kinda setup

Arlen has built me countless motors over the years and I can never complain about what I got for the money I spent.

However, there is way newer technology out there and makes way more power and torque than ever before.

I live here in the same town as him, and have relied on him many times to fix my f-ups...I will never take away from him his experience and know how.

you would have to call Arlen to get that figure. you asking a crystal ball kinda thing. does your motor need bearings, gears, shift forks, shift drum, crank, clutch, etc. ?

For about the same price as a 370 pro-x setup you will get a much more reliable setup that will put out more power. If you want even more go to the 431cc setup.
431cc runs about
$1100 cylinder
$250 porting
$170 reed cage and boot
$300 case machining
$750 for the crank (ouch)

Just to give you an idea. You will still have to get an ignition, pipe and carb.

Does any one run the puma cylinder i havent herd much about these. They kind of sound like strickly drag cylinders.

a motor, meaning youd want to have the cylinder and engine cases matched (height wise) to correct the compression and crank case compression ratio to be exact.

The cylinder is $1000 + head, intake and custom dome...runs around $1250 total. Then the machine work (including porting) will run you around $500-750. Then the correct carb and pipe combo will be approx $750, plus ignition $400, clutch $150-600, intake (reeds) $150...so expect to pay around $3000-3500 tip to tail.

If you run the total setup from Hybrid Engineering that Pete recommends...youll end up with 70+ hp on gas and close to 50 ft lbs of torque. These cylinder can be made to work as stump pullers if you ask him right.

I've got plans to go with a PUMA cylinder myself.

This cylinder is not just a drag cylinder. As cast, the port timings are pretty close to what I'd want for my application (TT, Flattrack racing, occasional cross country and rec riding, with some occasional drag racing...) with out doing much to change the port timings.

The options for the PUMA cylinder from Calvin Pollet are pretty good. The cylinder can be set up to run a small flange pipe (typical 250R pipe) or a large flange pipe (more power...) and also can be ran with carbs on the smaller side or as large as a 50mm Lectron for more power.

Cost is not to bad either, as I've checked to see what it would cost for me to do a 431 Puma.

I know of one Puma 431 that made 79 HP with a typical std 250R drag pipe, on alky. This is about, maybe a bit more, where one would expect a very well built ProX 370 to make.

Then an "old style" Sabertooth pipe was bolted on, and 89 HP was made with no other changes. Now, that motor setup with a pipe made for the PUMA has hit 96-97 HP.

So, the PUMA cylinder can be set up mild or all out, depending on what one wants.

Regards,

Rog

thats what I was getting at. the cylinder and port layout is similar to the Banshee Cup, since Calvin makes em both

Im sure if prepared as a package, a PUMA can be made to make MAD torque form the time you touch the throttle to full CDI rev limit.

I like the ol nik's cyl's, but the current technology that Calvin's been putting out would take $1000's in develop for what you can buy off the shelf from him.
