250r newbi clutch question

just bought an 86' atc 250r, on my 400ex the clutch starts engaging right when you start releasing it, but this bike dosen't engage till the lever is almost all the way out, and it's pretty much all or nothing is this normal or not? thanks for any input.

Is there any free play. Dose it have an easy clutch lever. By free play I mean where the cable hooks to arm at the case on the left side int should have about an 1/8" of play.

the lever moves smoothly, not hard but not real easy either. By the case the cable is tight but by the lever it has about an eighth of play in the cable. And the arm by the case only moves about 1/4" fully pulled in to fully let out.

you could have a combination of worn thin clutches and/or a worn clutch pivot arm aswell as a worn push rod.
