its very obvious that pits (mature pits that is) are know for being aggressive. i am interested in getting a puppy and i love the looks of pits. if i get a young pit bull pup and raise it right will i have the aggressive problem? i will likely get a female if that makes a difference.

the dog will be raised with a cat and a 12 year old (sweet & lazy lol) black lab. the dog will never be around other aggressive dogs. im just worried it will be mean and/or aggressive. thanks for the help.

really it all depends on how you raise them
any dog can be a mean dog

make sure you get the puppy from good parents. that has a little to do with it to. it's all in how you raise them. i had one a few years back. it was the sweetest thing ever. i raised it around my little sister minitiaure yorkee that is like 5 lbs. lol and mine was always playin with the yorkie even when she got older. she was never aggressive, the only time she even came close to getting aggressive was when my girlfriend brought her dog around, but it was more of being protective/territorial. she would growl a little when the other dog would get in the bed with us, but nothing serious. good luck. let me know if u have any more questions!

EDIT: oops, logged under my cousins name... im YZRIDA

If you are buying a puppy then def check out the parents and see how there temperament is. I have a pit and he is awesome no aggression at all, when he was a pup we took him to the dog park alot so he could interact with other dogs. The main thing with pits is they get dog aggressive. Having them neutered will help a lot as well. They are extremely smart loving loyal dogs. They are also incredibly athletic. You just have to raise them right and around other dogs people and kids, make sure and introduce them to all these elements young and you should be good. This may sound dumb but watch the show the dog whisperer, or buy his (cesar milan) dvd on how to train your puppy. They are great dogs who just have a bad wrap.

pits just have a bad rep cause people use them for the fighting dogs because they are so strong and very athletic.

Backwards there so strong and athletic b/c they are fighting dogs thats where the "pit" in pitbull comes from, the pit they fight in. Thats why there so people friendly, in the pit there are 3 people a ref and 2 handlers. So any dog that showed people aggression was killed to breed the people aggression out. Now they are trying to breed the dog aggression out of them also, well at least good people are, people like that POS Michael Vick are kinda going in the other direction. I have already had 2 different people try to get me to breed my dog with theirs b/c he is not dog aggressive and his demeanor is so awesome. They are also great dogs for kids b/c their pain tolerance is so high, so when a little kid grabs at them they dont really mind.

Ive had 2 pits. Both amazing dogs. First was a stray and i brought him in. Best dog you could ask for. So loving and gentle. He had heartworms bad when I got him and after I had him for a year I had to put him down. :(

Then I got a pit puppy a while after and she has been great too. Ive had her for 2 years now and never had 1 problem with her.

When I got her.

I have done a lot of pit bull research, but i do agree my dog is the most loving dog ever, they are big lap dogs. I think i will own pits forever they are GREAT dogs. Smart athletic and affectionate what more do you want? They are also a nice touch to keep the house safe while you are away at work. :D

yes very strong athletic...ive known people to hang tires up in trees and the dog will just latch on and swing from the tire for a long time.
