How and when do you guys know to do a full engine rebuild regardless of whether you send it out or do it yourself ?

1. Do you wait till it dont run no more ?
2. Do you do preventive maintenance and log in and follow a set amount of runtime hours ?

I ask this question since my CT built 350 has been running all year round for the last 3 1/2 years ........ and I have this feeling Im running on borrowed time.

do it when it nades or if you start loosing alot of power. or you can take it apart and see if everything is still inspec and if it isnt replace that part.

I keep a record of how many gallons of fuel I've ran thru it. I save the receipts when I buy a bottle of oil. One bottle of oil makes 4 gallons. So if I have 6 receipts then I've ran 24 gallons thru the quad. I also make random compression and leak down tests. You can also pop the top end off check for up and down movement on the rod and piston.

What checks besides compression and leakdown can you do without tearing into it ? Since it has been running fine, I fear the following to break WITHOUT warning .....

1. counterbalancer failure
2. 2nd to 4th gear failure
3. con rod bearing/ crank bearing failure
4. clutch basket breakage

Do ya know what I mean ??? These are things that have a lifespan and no random tests can be done to verify wear/tolerance unless doing a full teardown inspection.

I dont know what to tell ya'. If your not willing to tear it down then it dont matter. Run it till she breaks then inspect everything, I guess.

rebuild your top end when you lose 10 pounds of compression. and check your bottom end ever 3 years or so. if you race hard is should be checked over every season.
